September Angling News:-

1:- Watch Reservoir – 12 new boats are now available at Watch for the 2010 season since its re opening in May.

2:- Langley Dam - The Junior Competition in August was won by Callum Young with 2 fish for 4lb 6.
7 juniors fished altogether with 5 weighing in fish and all juniors on the day recieved a prize.

3:- NJAF patterns catching really well in August have been Damsel Flashback Green, Pink Centre Bead Bloodworm, Mini Minky Special Black and Green and a Red Midge Pupea.

4:- Best selling patterns in August have been Bibio Hopper, Mini Minky Black and Green, Pink and Green Bloodworms and Dawsons Straggle

5:- New pattern on site which I have caught with on my last couple of trips has been a Bibio Hopper Popper and although I first started using foam to float flies 30 years ago this seems like a success in this way when tied on Hoppers or Buzzers but probably not so good on many other patterns.

6:- Watch Reservoir – evening sessions will continue here in September but will be on Friday, Saturday and Sundays only. This will be until further notice.

7:- Clerklands – 2 tagged fish are still in Clerklands with a pound sweep optional entry for those who want to win the money in the kitty.

8:- Langley Dam - Sat 4th Sept 10 sees the Lake fully booked for a competition for Disabled Anglers. Evening tickets are available.

9:- Langley Dam - The Lake is fully booked for a club competition on Sun 26th Sept 10. Tickets will be available after 4pm.

FEATURED FLY OF THE MONTH - BLACK HOPPER POPPER.

With August and September great times to fish Hoppers with fish readily coming up to take these from the top of the water on the right days now seems a good time to feature this pattern.

It is basically a suspender hopper but is suspended with the use of Booby Eyes which I have also seen to work really well when added to certain buzzers. These have been called Hopper Poppers and friends who fished the lexus open saw anglers in the south of England doing really well with this fly and brought the info back to me.

Here is the pattern.

Hook - 12 longshank.

Silk – Black.

Body – Black Seals Fur over small foam booby eye which protrudes at hook eye.

Rib – Silver wire or Green Tinsel.

Legs – 6 knotted Pheasant Tails which can be tied either underneath or on top of the water.
Hackle – Black Cock Hackle.
